A lot of folks have lamented that in Mists of Pandaria, it’s not really feasible to have alts, because at level 90, there’s a pile of reputation grinds and daily quests, and if you’re keeping a raid main character “to par” you really have to invest additional time that you may not have to get a second character up to speed.
I want to share a piece of advice with you, a solid bit of thinking: slow down. Focus.
Personally, I can’t keep two or more characters raid ready. I just can’t. What I CAN do, is focus my energies so that what time I have is productively spent. I spent Cataclysm healing on a discipline priest, and have spent Mists thus far as a damage dealing affliction warlock.
I like to think I healed pretty well in Cataclysm. And, I wanted to continue along that theme in Mists, even if not in raiding - but, there’s challenge mode dungeons now. Challenge Mode dungeons are being pushed as a progression minded way to have a team of five fight against the in game enemies, as part of a score board/time attack mode, where everything is tuned a bit harder, you’re scaled down to a constant “level” of gear.
So, I’ve spent the time on Ilithia, the raid main, and have done the daily grind, have earned the valor points to buy the gear, and when I’m done, I can go to Karanina and gear up for Challenge Mode dungeons. If I feel energetic in a week, I can do LFR, try and get some more of the pieces that match the robes, because they look nice.
But, I have no “difficulties” in game short of those I have made for myself. I have a focus because I want to do this task, with this character. That task, with that character.
So, play what you like, how you like. But, think about how to take care of you, as a person, first. This is what’s best for me. What about you?
